...Waste Collection Operations with Computerised Vehicle Routing and Scheduling
The aim of this Guide is to provide ‘‘best practice’’ information for waste collection authorities (WCAs) and the inclusion of case studies is seen as an important aid to anchoring best practice in real operations. It is intended that the material presented here will contribute to greater efficiency in waste collection operations and help WCAs to understand how their collection operations could be improved, potentially through working more closely with neighbouring authorities.

The University of Westminster, funded by the Department for Transport, carried out a scoping study in order to identify the potential for the development of Urban Freight Consolidation Centres (UCCs) whose principal objectives are to alleviate local environmental and traffic concerns in urban areas. This Report highlights circumstances where UCCs are most likely to be successful, the likely beneficiaries and also presents an evalutation model, which allows different types of UCCs to be evaluated and their impacts established.
