Lutterworth Haulier Gets Leaner and Greener
As part of its series of free in-house presentations, the Department for Transport Freight Best Practice programme last week visited ASDA’s Lutterworth Chilled Distribution Centre, sharing knowledge on how to become more efficient and reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
The programme which has helped save 240,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions from the freight industry over the past two years, visited ASDA to give a bespoke presentation on how to improve their operational efficiency.
The half day presentation covered the key messages of the programme, topics such as saving fuel, developing skills, equipment and systems, operational efficiency and performance management. ASDA then had the chance to mould the presentation to suit their own individual operational requirements, choosing to examine Change Management and Benchmarking.
Ian Jones, Transport General Manager for ASDA’s Midland’s fleet said ‘Freight Best Practice has a proven track record of helping operators such as ourselves’ to save fuel through improved efficiency. Over the last two years, ASDA has delivered a transformational improvement in the environmental impact of its logistics operations through a sustainable transport strategy of “Fewer and Friendlier Miles” which resulted in us saving 6 million road miles in 2007 alone.’
