It's TOP of the Pile

The Freight Best Practice programme’s principle aim to help operators put theory into practice by producing free practical everyday tools to help transport managers establish fuel management programmes. One such tool was the fleet performance management tool kit which received outstanding reviews.

In light of this success, the programme has recently developed a new tool called the Transport Operators Pack (TOP). TOP provides excellent practical ‘every day’ support material to help fleet operators implement best practice in the workplace and is designed for those with day-to-day vehicle and driver responsibilities.

TOP will act in direct support of tasks essential to running a successful fuel management programme. It includes helpful checklists, spreadsheets, forms to assist in the collection of fuel data, presentations, posters and key fact reminders. The pack has been designed to support an A4 ring binder for updating purposes on a subscriber basis.

The pack contains a variety of practical and reference material to help you implement best practice within your operation. The material is specifically intended to be used by the Transport Manager and Owner Driver. TOP is divided into six clear sections:

  • Forms
  • Checklist
  • Top Tips
  •  Interactive Spreadsheets
  • Posters
  • Speak-Up Packs

Forms and Checklists: These can be photocopied for repeat use and in their electronic version can also be edited and saved. Therefore the forms and checklists can be tailored to meet individual requirements.

Top Tips: Contain useful key facts that can be wall-mounted or used as reference material. I

Interactive Spreadsheets: These spreadsheets which are in a simple Microsoft Excel© format enable you as the user to monitor, measure, manage and ultimately improve performance. The spreadsheets provide the tool to allow you to make an informed decision.

Posters: There are a selection of posters aimed mainly at drivers but also to other areas of the business to reinforce efficiency and safety messages. Display the posters on a staged roll-out basis to support topical themes being introduced as part of your regular driver briefing sessions.

Speak-Up Packs: Before beginning any new venture or rolling out any new procedure it is important to firstly communicate effectively to others what the changes will be, what part they will have to play, how it will affect them and most importantly get their approval and 'Buy in'. These Speak-up packs are intended to do just this on a variety of subjects. The packs contain Microsoft PowerPoint© presentations that can be tailored to suit your needs when making presentations on fuel management and operational efficiency improvements.

The Transport Operators Pack is completely free of charge as are all Freight Best Practice publications, and can be obtained by clicking here.
