Freight Best Practice wins Top Transport Award
Freight Best Practice was recognised at the Prestigious National Transport Awards in London on 22 July, picking up the top award for Contribution to Sustainable Transport.
The Freight Best Practice Programme promotes operational efficiency, safety, journey time reliability and emission reductions for freight by road, rail and waterways. Funded by the DfT, the Northern Ireland Assembly and the Scottish Government, the guidelines aim to increase operational efficiency while reducing the impact of emissions on the environment of lorries, which account for 22% of the carbon dioxide emissions from UK transport.
In presenting the award, writer, broadcaster and television presenter Hardeep Singh Kohli said that “Freight Best Practice is a substantial and successful programme encouraging behavioural change. Since AECOM’s appointment in 2005, operators using the programme have increased by 80% and it is now a trusted information source for drivers, managers and directors.”
Jonathan James, Project Director for the Freight Best Practice Programme said “We are obviously delighted to win such a prestigious award. The programme has come a long way since we first won the contract in 2005 and it is good to receive independent confirmation of the programme’s success. This is a huge tribute to a massively committed team both in AECOM and the DfT and reflects our very close relationship with DfT, our client. We look forward to taking the programme further in the years to come.”
The Dinner was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel and representing AECOM were David Gane. Peter Yendall, Jonathan James, John Hix, Richard Elviss, Martyn Cayley and Mick Heduan.
