Local Supplier Champions Best Practice
Local Devon based supplier Riverford Organic Vegetables Ltd has recently featured in a Department for Transport Freight Best Practice Case Study entitled 'Owner Drivers and Small Fleet Operators: Simple, Cost Effective Ways to Improve Efficiency'. Riverford Organic Vegetables Ltd which is based in Buckfastleigh improved the efficiency of its 12 vehicles by 9% in a year.
Riverford's actions involved improving performance management through better utilisation of IT, improving vehicle utilisation by consolidating loads and reducing empty running and investment in new, more efficient refrigerated trailers. These improvements which other operators will now view as industry best practice and learn from, resulted in a 9% improvement in fuel consumption which prevented 146 tonnes of CO2 being emitted over a year.
Stephen Miners, Transport Manager for Riverford said 'We continually strive to improve our performance and ensure our operation is as professional and efficient as possible. To receive this national recognition is credit to all our hard work.'
