New Online Map for Multi-Modal...

...Freight Movements

Freight Best Practice today (23 March) launched a new online Multi-modal Map which identifies open user rail terminals, ports and wharfs in the UK, which will assist operators when researching the possibility of using non-road mode forms of transport as part of their supply chain. The first of its kind, the map also provides contact information and commodity handling capabilities for 160 ports and 90 open user rail terminals and includes links to sources on further advice and available grants.

One of the major issues highlighted as part of the Non-Road Mode Research recently carried out by Freight Best Practice was the lack of access to information on the facilities available for multi-modal transport. This map goes a long way to put this right and provides essential time saving information to those evaluating the possibility of a modal change within their operation.

Freight Best Practice understands that moving goods off the road is not a viable option for every operator, but with a large range of Case Studies, Guides and Technology from the programme, those interested in the possibilities now have the information to make more informed decisions.

The Multi-modal Map as with all Freight Best Practice material is free of charge and can be accessed by visiting www.freightbestpractice.org.uk
